The estrangement spell is a ritual designed to create emotional and energetic distance between individuals whose connection has become harmful, unsustainable, or no longer aligned. It is not rooted in malice or punishment, but in the solemn recognition that some relationships, whether familial, romantic, platonic, or professional, require clear separation for personal peace, safety, or growth. This spell facilitates the process of disengagement, allowing for detachment without lingering energetic entanglement or emotional residue. This ritual can also be used to bring people back from estrangement, providing closeness and resolution of the original issues.
 
The ritual space is prepared with grounding and severing elements. A single black or grey candle is lit to represent release and boundary setting. Crystals such as obsidian for protection, onyx for emotional resilience, and clear quartz for energetic clarity are placed around the altar. A piece of thread, cord, or ribbon, symbolizing the tie between you and the other person, is laid out, unknotted and loose. These are examples of things that may be used, and there will be more ritualistic items along with communication with different beings and energy work to bring forth the results needed.
 
The ritual begins with breathwork and reflection. I may write the name of the individual, or their symbolic representation, on parchment, along with a clear statement of intent such as: “I release this connection with peace. Let distance grow, let ties dissolve. I reclaim my space.” or, "I bring this person back to me, to resolve, to create closeness where there is now distance."
 
The cord is then cut in silence, symbolizing the end or beginning of energetic ties. The parchment may be buried, burned, or submerged in water to finalize the release. A spoken incantation reinforces the boundaries: “Where once we met, now paths divide. May silence stand where pain resides. I walk on, whole and free.”
 
The estrangement spell is an act of self protection and sovereignty. It honors the emotional complexity of parting or reuniting while creating a clean energetic break. Through this ritual, it makes space for closure, healing, and the reclamation of their own path, untethered, clear, and protected.
